They have gone nuts again

It is quite possible we have left bits and pieces of our gray matter along the way. There were some rather bouncy bus rides. I think half of it might have died on that horrible China train ride. It could have just escaped into the dark night, god knows I wanted to do the same.
The thing is that we are thinking of going to Norway. Not just Norway. No. We are seriously considering going to Tromso. Where is that? Right about there:
It is so far North that in July, when we are wanting to go, the sun does not set.
Think about it.
Yeah, yeah, you are saying to yourself, big deal, your brain is fine, just go.
Sure, but we are thinking of going there with Couch.
Good night.
You can’t leave me hanging like that, can’t wait to read on..xx
I say do it! Then you can dip your toes in the arctic ocean:)
I think that’s a fantastic idea! July is a long time away, and Europe is small. You can go slowly and let Couch have lots of breathers.
Just so you are aware of it, you are all enabling the crazy people to take up the not so smart options ;)
What an intriguing idea! Google says it’s only about 2 days of solid driving, so you could get there in a week. And you’d see tons along the way. The climate looks spectacular – cool even in the summer, not so cold in the winter, lots of snow (not now, obviously). And how interesting to get into the arctic circle and the midnight sun!
Driving around in an old car – so what? I daresay you will meet a lot of aged and bruised cars on your way ;-) But please do not stop in Tromso, the town is really just a dull stopping point for tourists out for the Northern Lights. I wish you fun with the Fins (Finlandians?), anyway – supposedly a quite strange people…
July is the ONLY time I’d want to go that far north! Viewing the Northern Lights from that angle sounds like an amazing experience and good pics for us (: Maybe there is another sweet little town up there if Tromso isn’t all that?
I have a friend in Tromso that is offering to house us, so I am not about to fight for paid accommodation in Norway. In fact, this will only be possible if we can find enough couch surfing opportunities and eat self made sandwiches along the way.
Haha, Jenny, I am not sure they will even allow us in Germany and the Scandinavian countries with Couch.
Another thought: Buy a tent! You can do freedom camping in the Scandinavian countries, and the living costs are REALLY high there…
I know, everything is expensive there. We have a tent, although we have not used it yet or at all..ever..before. Freedom camping in Scandinavia sounds perfect. I wonder if we can catch fish too ;)
Well, the good news is that Couch is still alive…and driving! Norway though is a eLONGated country, long, very long, long. But I believe the drive up north will be amazing, breathtaking and all that superlatives. If one is not crazy, one will not survive…Good luck!
Emiel, it IS a long country, which makes the journey big, especially for Europe. The Norwegian North is supposed to be magnificent on a global scale, so I think the risk of being stranded might be worth it.
Perhaps, if you are interested in Finland, I could ask my cousin from the farm if you could visit. It’s great fun on his farm, they have cows and a couple of cats, a forest all around, it’s really a lovely relaxing place. Just watch out for the mosquitos!
Nina, sure! Our new route takes us through Finland, so if it is anywhere along the way we would love to visit. Is that the cousin I met?
