Same / Different

The following three photos are from our recent trip. I have been meaning to put them up as a good example of how important it can be to have full control of the camera instead of letting it make the choice of exposure settings for us.
So, this is the same conditions, just different settings.
1. Normal exposure
close to what the camera was saying is proper for the image

2. ‘Underexposed’
I wanted get the silhouettes of the trees and the brightness of the sun through the clouds.

1. ‘Overexposure’
Here I was going for the colors – the beautiful greens and oranges which seam to come out when the weather is wet.

I dont think there is any one right or correct, just different images that will appeal to different people. I personally cannot choose. The moment I think “this is the one!” and at that time I see something that I like in another one. They are no masterpieces, they were shot from the car after all, but they do bring me some pleasure the more I look at them.
Which one speaks to you? If any.
Hummm… I see what you mean abut them… and surprisingly the ‘normal’ exposure doesn’t speak to me at all… I would walk by that one and not look twice.. the darker one I really like and can feel the emotion behind it…
the lighter one makes me want to go walking in it…
I seem to regularly be drawn to overexposed pictures for some reason. Strange? Perhaps the overt brightness???
Each creates such a different mood…I think the underexposed is my favorite but I could see how as my mood changes my favorite might too!
Kristin, the ‘normal’ exposure has these greens that peak at me and the warm brown of the fuzzy ground, which are attractive enough for me to not scrap it.
Bec, maybe its contrast you like?
nikki, that one is my favorite most of the time too.
As a person who own a nice camera and is still trying to figure it out would you share your settings? What do you do to make it overexposed as compared to underexposed. And when you say normal are you saying auto?
I like the underexposed! LOVE seeing the sun peek thru the trees!
Mel, the originals are on my dead laptop so I cant check the settings right now. I will though and I will let you know.
As far as the exposure is concerned, did you read my post about it? http://www.snapsandblabs.com/blog/photo-blabs/1482
Here by normal I mean what will be automatically set by the camera under these circumstances.
I’ll go back and re read the post. Thanks girly
